                                                 Classroom Discipline Plan

I believe that every child needs to be responsible for his/her own behavior.  One of my jobs is to teach children how to manage their behavior in a caring, consistent environment.  I use a system that flows from one step to another.  The consequences that are used are generally the same in all W-MU elementary classrooms.

The large flow chart has 6 different shapes.  Every student has a clothespin with their name on it

Each time a child “forgets” our classroom expectations (rules), they move their clothespin.

  1. Body Basics-keeping hands and feet to self
  2. Listen to teacher-look at person who is talking
  3. Do what is asked the first time
  4. Use your manners-do not interrupt someone when they are talking

APPLE: EVERY child’s clothespin begins EACH day on the apple

TEDDY BEAR:  warning…use those Body Basics!

                                                                         FROG: 5 minutes off recess

DOG:  5 minutes off recess and playtime

ELEPHANT:  10 minutes off recess and 10 minutes off playtime

HOUSE:  NO recess or playtime/contact mom and dad

*of course, if a physically dangerous situation arises, office intervention is used immediately

I have had great success with this flow chart and the “clothespins”.
I am sure that if you haven’t heard about it from your child already, you will.

Thank you for your continued support with my kindergarten program.
